The qualifications for a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) per Federal Regulations (7 CFR 246).
The Women Infant and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program known as WIC, provides nutrition and health care information and services to low-income women and children.
This program is aimed at protecting the health of women and children who are at risk for poor nutrition.
CPA's focuses on the nutritional needs of pregnant, post-partum and breast-feeding women, and infants and children up to five years of age.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND

Respond to patients, peers and referring agencies in a positive and timely manner.
Communication and inquiries may be by telephone, mail, fax and email.

Completes dietary assessment; assesses client's nutritional status:
develops and coordinates an individualized nutrition plan of care, including involving the client/family in the development of the client's goals and collaboration with other health care professionals as necessary.
Implements the nutrition interventions identified in the nutrition plan of care including:
client-centered counseling on nutrition and dietary recommendations/prescription, evaluating effectiveness and outcomes of care, and revising the nutrition plan of care as needed.
Determines WIC Program eligibility for WIC applicants per federal, state, and Aunt Martha's guidelines.
Assesses the need for and makes appropriate medical and community social service referrals, as well as either individual or group nutrition education follow up appointments for WIC clients/patients.
Prescribes WIC eligible client's food package, directs WIC food instruments and explains use.
Completes client's WIC record including:
documentation of nutrition assessment, SAP Notes, follow up appointments and referrals, required forms with signatures, and organizes chart in appropriate order according to applicable policies and procedures; and in a timely manner.
Prepares for and teaches weekly WIC nutrition education group sessions, staff in-services and other classes as assigned.
Uses WIC computer system for all phases of WIC certification, inquiry, scheduling, food instrument insurance and report generation.
Assists in maintaining adequate supply of WIC certification and nutrition education materials through inventory, acquisition and distribution processes.
Demonstrates evidence of continuing educational development through participation in appropriate seminars, classes and/or in-services; as well as self-study materials.
Participates in peer monitoring and self-assessments or chart audits to determine compliance with state policies Participate in individual supervision and staff meetings.
Attend and successfully complete all agency and program required training Follow agency policies, procedures and guidelines.
Perform all other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:
Education:
Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietetic Technician, Nutritionist, Registered Nurse, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Health or Home Economics field with an emphasis in nutrition.
It is preferred that the individual has experience or course work in maternal and child nutrition, lactation, nutrition assessment and nutrition education.
Bilingual Preferred Strong interpersonal skills Knowledgeable about community resources Experience in working with Microsoft Office programs essential.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Physical/Environmental:
Ability to lift 10 to 20 lbs.
