Computer Aided Design Designer
Job DescriptionContribute to the development of intricate tooling designs and related documentation, involving the creation of 3D models and animated assemblies derived from conceptual ideas, rough sketches, and collaborative discussions. Produce detailed drawings of components and assemblies utilizing CAD software, such as Autodesk Inventor.Requirements Translate conceptual ideas into practical, functional models following established mechanical design and manufacturing principles, particularly focusing on steel products. Regularly assess personal progress within projects to adhere to timelines effectively. Prioritize tasks in alignment with departmental and design team objectives. Demonstrate adaptability in managing shifting priorities within tight deadlines. Perform additional duties as necessary within the scope of the role. Maintain communication with fellow design team members while working remotely. Establish and uphold consistent file naming conventions for improved organization of legacy files. Streamline design elements to minimize additional machining steps and costs. Suggest suitable tolerances for components based on tolerance analysis. Ensure accuracy in inputs and deliver high-quality work products to stakeholders. Create 2D drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM) packages for machine shop production in addition to 3D models. Develop new designs or modify existing ones within specified parameters. Utilize software tools like iLogic to efficiently adapt tool dimensions for different sets. Conduct tolerance analysis on assemblies to identify and resolve conflicts. Perform stress analysis on components subjected to heavy loads. Explore the application of CAM programming for tool path optimization in coordination with machine shop management and operators. Qualifications Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Drafting and Design or equivalent practical experience. Three years of direct CAD drafting experience using Inventor CAD software or similar 3D modeling software. Experience in creating detailed engineering drawings, 3D solid models, and assemblies with minimal guidance from concepts and sketches. Familiarity with high-speed press tooling, including knowledge of material properties and strength.
