This position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service. The duties and responsibilities are carried throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient areas involved with the service. The audiologist plans, conducts, and coordinates all aspects of diagnostic evaluation and treatment of hearing impairment and/or balance disorders. The incumbent must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill in applying a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of audiology to a wide range of populations. The incumbent is an independent licensed practitioner and is considered to be at the full performance level.- Conducts, plans, and coordinates all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary audiology practice.- Patient care including the selection and fitting of hearing aids and other amplification systems and devices, aural (auditory) rehabilitation, and counseling of hearing-impaired veterans and their family.- Identifies and evaluates individuals with hearing disorders in the reception and perception of speech, language and other acoustic signals to a full range of patient complexity.- Planning, delivering, and monitoring the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of patient-centered treatment and rehabilitative services.- Serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases and is a recognized subject matter expert on matters related to hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders.- Responsible for supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and precepting student trainees in audiology and maintaining a liaison with affiliated colleges and universities.- May provide instruction to residents and interns who seek information related to audiology.- Remains current with new developments and maintains professional competency by reading professional journals and engaging in continuing education activities.- Attends regular staff meetings, reviews policies and procedures and attends in-service training.- Participates in research activities related to clinical audiology.- Performs program management duties on occasion.- This position also provides in-person services at the Hines, Aurora Il. and Hoffman Estates, CBOC.- Performs other related duties as assigned. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
Audiologists must be proficient in spoken and written English. GS-12 EDUCATION:
Must have a Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university. Accredited means a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) and/or the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). LICENSURE:
Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. NOTE:
All audiologists who perform compensation and pension (C&P) examinations are considered to be performing direct patient care duties, and must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology (38 CFR 4.85). GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Must have one year of professional experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) and possession of a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1) Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies. 2) Knowledge of clinical services, and the ability to perform them independently. 3) Ability to conduct assessments and provide treatment interventions. 4) Ability to provide consultation to other health care professionals. 5) Knowledge of contemporary audiology practice. 6) Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
